Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Smoothie

Fall in Southern California isn't quite like the East Coast fall that I'm used to - I'm in the mood for pumpkin flavored things because it's October but it is still way too hot for lattes and baked goods. If you're in a similar boat or you're looking for a great pre or post workout meal that just so happens to be seasonally flavored, here you go!

chocolate protein pumpkin smoothie

INGREDIENTS (serves 1):

  • 1-1.5 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder of choice
  • 1/2 cup frozen chopped zucchini (makes it creamy + gives you a serving of veggies. Win/Win)
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips or cacao nibs
  • 1/3c pumpkin puree
  • generous sprinkling of pumpkin pie spice 
  • ice 
  • optional add-ins: coconut oil or MCT, flax seed, spinach 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • blend all of the above, adding liquid to reach a consistency you like (I like to keep it thick and eat it with a spoon so it feels like ice cream :))
